Energy, the subtle concept

Jennifer Coopersmith

Why I looked at this book

We naturally divide up the world into different things, but there is a need to question whether we divide it up in an appropriate way. The concept of energy is an illustration of this. We talk as if there is some fundamental thing called energy, but all we can see is different forms - motion, heat and the like - which we group together and give the name energy. But conservation of energy is a law of physics, so does that make energy a meaningful concept? I'm hoping that this book will look into such issues.
