What shape is a snowflake?

Ian Stewart

Why I looked at this book

Why is a snowflake so symmetrical? If every snowflake is different why isn't each arm of a snowflake different? I think that this is rather a puzzle are something I want to investigate. This book isn't just about snowflakes, more about symmetry in general, but I'm hoping that it will be a start to finding out the answer to these questions.

First impressions

There isn't a sample available at Amazon.com or Google Books, but there is one available at Amazon.co.uk, although it not that easy to read. It looks to be an interesting introduction to patterns and symmetry, with plenty of pictures.
