The economics of inequality

Thomas Piketty

Why I looked at this book

In Capital in the 21st Century Piketty gave a long look at the distribution of capital and the nature of economic inequality. In this shorter book I would hope to find out more about these vitally important issues, possibly from a slightly different angle.

First impressions

The first edition of this book was written some time ago, so it is less up to date than Capital, but still is of interest. Piketty talks of the various ideas of redistribution, but points out that to decide between them it is important to understand the mechanism behind inequality. This book is meant to be step towards that understanding, and if it achieves that goal then I think it will be well worth reading.
